Taylor Swift only gets a $10 birthday gift from Travis Kelce’s dad

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has earned more than $93 million in his NFL career and has plenty of money to spend on a birthday present for Taylor Swift. But his blue-collar father from Ohio apparently won’t go to great lengths for the occasion.

Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, said he plans to spend just $10 on a gift for his son’s pop star girlfriend this year.

“You’re not going to overwhelm Taylor Swift with a gift that costs, you know, $100,000. “You have to get something that touches your heart and you spend $10 on,” Ed said during an appearance on the US show Baskin & Phelps Podcast. “Then it will be very sticky. You have to find something that triggers the emotions.”

Ed, a former steelworker and Coast Guard member, believes there is no point in spending too much on someone like Swift, who can achieve anything he wants as a billionaire.

“The amount of money is meaningless,” he said. “There’s nothing they want that they don’t already have. You have to look beyond that. You have to dig deeper and come up with something special.”

Swift turned 35 on Friday and is in her second full year of her relationship with the NFL star.

Kelce came under increasing pressure to propose to Swift after Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen got engaged to actress Hailee Steinfeld in late November. Fans across social media have been calling for Kelce to get down on her knees for Swift as the two are now officially in the second half of their 30s.

When that day comes, Swift will try to welcome Ed and Kelce’s mother, Donna, as in-laws, but she probably won’t expect quality gifts from either parent, based on Ed’s philosophy.

Although Ed had a career in the steel industry, he has a military background.

“Every member of my family before me was in the military,” Ed said on a February 2023 episode of Travis and his brother Jason’s “New Heights” podcast. “We also talk about the family that lived through World War II.” , so everyone did that, because that was the background.”

Ed didn’t join the army because he already had a knee injury. He joined the Coast Guard but had to leave boot camp after it was discovered he had Crohn’s disease.

After entering the steel industry, Ed arranged for his sons Travis and Jason to work with him at the mill to show them what the job was like.

“I would take her there — hard hat, goggles, boots, the whole nine yards,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “I would tell them, ‘You can have a job like your mother’s, or you can have a job like mine.'”
