Tens of thousands of customers in Washington are affected by power outages

Tens of thousands of Western Washington homes and businesses are dealing with power outages Wednesday as winds and rainfall once again hit Western Washington.

As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, 86,230 homes and businesses were affected by the outages, according to the website poweroutage.us. That’s a significant improvement from earlier this morning, when 146,144 customers in the state were affected as of 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. As of 5:55 a.m., 158,413 customers in Washington were affected.

Looking at specific utilities, PSE saw the largest number of affected customers, according to its outage map. As of 9 a.m., the utility reported 353 “active outages” and 48,589 affected customers. At around 6:30 a.m. this morning, the utility reported 337 “active outages” and 62,285 affected homes and businesses.

Snohomish PUD is also reporting outages Wednesday, although the number has decreased significantly since early morning. As of 9 a.m., the utility’s outage map showed 1,108 homes and businesses were affected by the outages. But as of 6:30 a.m., 41,026 customers were affected. Just 10 minutes earlier, at 6:20 a.m., 57,220 customers were affected.

Tacoma Public Utilities (TPU), which was largely spared from last weekend’s wave of outages, says on its outage map that as of 9 a.m. there were 75 outages and 11,212 customers affected. That’s actually a slight increase from this morning, when there were 65 outages and 11,044 customers affected at 6:30 a.m

Seattle City Light’s outage map shows there were 22 “active events” and 1,972 homes and businesses affected as of 9 a.m. As of 6:30 a.m., there were 15 “active events” and 1,976 affected customers.

Looking to other parts of the state, poweroutage.us reported that Peninsula Light Company customers were experiencing 14,577 outages as of 6:20 a.m. Wednesday. Since this utility serves 35,935 homes and businesses, this means 40% were affected. That number dropped to 6,701 affected customers as of 9 a.m
