Texans GM Nick Caserio rips NFL over ‘bullsh*t’ treatment of Azeez Al-Shaair

The Houston Texans have been the talk of the NFL for the last 24 hours. Linebacker Azeez Al-Shair delivered a punch to Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence that gave him a concussion and sparked a brawl between both teams. The NFL has now suspended Al-Shair for three games. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans defended Al-Shaair after the game, and general manager Nick Caserio spoke about the events on Monday.

Caserio started by saying the most important thing was that Lawrence was okay and that he was happy to hear he was okay. He then took a sharp dig at the NFL and the picture they paint of Al-Shaair.

“I think one of the biggest issues that we’re kind of upset about is the picture that was painted by Azeez,” Caserio said. “Honestly, it’s unfair. And I would say one of the biggest problems…is the consistency of the league. And I would say, in this situation, to be honest, there is no consistency at all in relation to the level of discipline.” That is reported.”

Caserio then gives several examples of different situations in which the league was inconsistent with penalties.

“Let’s look at this season,” Caserio said. “Okay, we had multiple situations, multiple examples, two really good examples… (Brian) Branch got ejected against Green Bay – plays us next week. Derwin (James) – thrown out. Got suspended for one game…Kareem.” Jackson, Kareem is a good player Then suspended after three games. So we say Azeez Al-Shair, no one embodies our program more than Azeez. What he’s about, what he’s been through.

“You all know his story. There is no more selfless person on the team who has earned the respect that represents everything the show is supposed to be about. I mean, this morning he was at a United Way event. So we’re talking about some of the comments that have been made about his character, about the person he is, about his intentions from people who honestly don’t know anything about Azeez Al-Shaair, and about the league that something The comment she made about this is about a lack of sportsmanship, a lack of coaching ability, a lack of attention to the rules – to be honest, it’s embarrassing. And we’re talking about a player who was never suspended (and) kicked out… honestly, that’s nonsense.”

We’ll see how the rest of this saga unfolds and whether Al-Shair appeals and what comes of it if he does appeal.
