With parts of Texas at risk of severe weather, Gov. Greg Abbott has activated the state’s emergency resources.

What we know: Strong to severe storms have occurred or are expected to develop in portions of north, central, east and southeast Texas.

Risks include large hail, damaging winds, flash floods and even possible tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.

The Texas Department of Emergency Management has activated Texas A&M Task Force 1, which has swift-water rescue boat crews to assist with flood rescues.

Urban search and rescue teams from Texas A&M Task Force 1 and Texas Task Force 2 were placed on standby.

What they say: “Texas stands ready to provide all necessary resources to assist local authorities in responding to severe weather threats,” Gov. Abbott said in a statement. “As Texans and out-of-state visitors begin traveling after the Christmas holiday, it is critical that everyone regularly monitor road conditions, create an emergency plan and follow guidance from state and local officials. “I thank all emergency responders for their help working this holiday week as they help their fellow Texans during these storms.”
