Texas Longhorns kicker Bert Auburn sets new program record

ATLANTA – Bert Auburn stands alone at the top in Texas Longhorns kicker history.

With a 41-yard field goal in the first quarter of Saturday’s SEC championship against the Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta, Auburn became the program’s all-time leader in field goals with 61. This new record is certainly impressive considering the talented kickers Texas has had over the years, highlighted by Justin Tucker, Cameron Dicker and Hunter Lawrence.

Auburn is now at 61 of 77 career field goals, highlighted by a career 54 yards in a win over Texas Tech in 2023. He also scored all 168 extra points he attempted. He also caught a one-yard pass in a win over Houston last season.

Auburn, who was originally a member of the 2021 recruiting class. Now in his fourth year at Texas, he has played in some big games and been used in crucial moments. However, he struggled a bit during the 2024 campaign.

Auburn was 10 of 15 from field goals in the SEC Championship, which was marred by some poor misses that ended up going wide. Luckily, given the way most of Texas’ games were played leading up to the postseason, Auburn wasn’t asked for any infractions. As a result, some of his fights were not the focus.

Fans have floated the idea on social media that kickoff specialist Will Stone should be given a chance to attempt place kick attempts, but Auburn has remained head coach Steve Sarkisian’s man.
