The 7 Most Shocking Revelations About Lisa Frank in the Glitter & Greed Documentary

For those who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s, the Lisa Frank brand was a huge part of life. Toy stores and major retailers carried the colorful patterns on stickers, school supplies and even clothing, and they were very popular with children and teenagers.

However, the brand’s ubiquity has faded over time, and instead the company and its reclusive namesake have become more infamous than famous – and Prime Video’s new documentaries, Glitter and Greed: The Lisa Frank Storystreaming now, features some truly shocking testimonials from those directly in her inner circle during the company’s heyday and eventual decline.

The four-part streaming series features interviews with everyone from her business partner and husband and ex-husband James Green to the woman who ran a supposedly very cutthroat human resources department to the company’s leading artists and designers to two collaborators who were completely destroyed as a result.

Here are some of the most shocking claims and revelations made in the docuseries.

Former employees strongly criticized the toxicity of the work environment

A former concept artist who was part of the brand during its more successful era revealed that although she felt pressured to work 12 hour days, she still lived on food stamps to raise her two children. Another employee said he was unexpectedly switched from salary to hourly to reduce his wages and was also struggling to make ends meet even though business was booming. Another woman said she had to leave work a little early to get to the bank and walked through the warehouse. An attempt was then made to lock the doors with a padlock, which was reportedly refused due to the fire risk. And perhaps most shockingly, an accounting man dropped dead at his desk and colleagues were expected to carry on working while his body was carted away by coroners.

Lisa Frank’s wedding to James Green was a spectacle

The docuseries features some truly unique images of the woman behind the brand, including a video of her wedding to her first artist and business partner, James Green. During their wedding, they featured cute characters from the company’s line in tuxedos and their dress had colorful flowers at the neckline. The most disturbing thing about this part of the story wasn’t the fact that the horse carrying her to the aisle took a clearly audible pee break while she was standing right next to it, but that the videographer who captured it all, working for free and immediately regretted it, after being ordered around.

Their divorce was even more spectacular

Green was one of the most prominent contributors to the documentaries and spoke very, very openly about the problems in his personal and professional relationship with Frank. He claimed that the company’s success was due to him as he was responsible for the marketing and some of the graphics and even the logo itself was his creation. Therefore, he did not believe that receiving a 49 percent share in the company was a wedding present for him. As things fell apart between the couple, the split became widely known in the media, and eventually Green had to sell back his shares and was not allowed back into the building he had helped create.

One of her children refuses to talk to her anymore

Frank and Green had two boys together, Hunter and Forest. The eldest of the two appeared in the documentaries and criticized his mother for being verbally aggressive towards him behind closed doors. Ultimately, he decided to defy the court order to give her sole custody after the bitter divorce. Hunter Green thought carefully about some of his words in the docuseries and said he wouldn’t trust his estranged mother to sue him.

The co-founders of Glamor Dolls were ruined after trying to work with her

In the docuseries, the two co-founders of a now-defunct makeup company called Glamor Dolls claimed that they were repeatedly bilked out of hundreds of thousands of dollars by Frank after their successful Kickstarter campaign to develop a themed product line failed. Although they were initially the ones who saw collaborating with Lisa Frank as a dream project for their emerging brand, it ultimately turned into a nightmare where they were unable to meet product development deadlines and their contract was voided by LFI. despite spending hundreds of thousands of dollars and even funding a lavish two-week trip to Greece for their son Forest’s graduation. They believed – and have sued while the case is pending – that she was so obstructive in approving designs that they had to renew their licensing agreement, which then charged four times as much money. After the agreement was terminated, they were left with (empty) pockets and the reputation of their newly formed company was destroyed. They were deeply shocked to learn that Lisa Frank later successfully collaborated with another makeup brand whose product design was almost identical to the one they developed themselves.

A Los Angeles artist also claims Lisa Frank copied her business

An artist named Tasselfairy had created a Cloudland apartment inspired by, among other things, the aesthetics of childhood chic companies like Lisa Frank, featuring a house filled with rainbows and other colorful art. Tasselfairy was shocked to learn that Frank, who had been sending messages of support on social media, later worked with Hotels.com to create a Lisa Frank-themed room with similar designs – including rainbow-themed kitchen cabinets and a cloud mural .

Lisa Frank still promises a comeback.

The statement heard in every episode outro Glitter and greed came directly from Lisa Frank and promised LFI a bright future: “I love art and have been an artist since I was a child. Lisa Frank, Inc. is the result of this passion. I am incredibly grateful to the amazing artists and team members who helped me bring my vision to life. I’m so excited about the future as the next generation takes over. Stay tuned – the best is yet to come!”
