The alleged killer of the UnitedHealthcare CEO attended an elite private school in Maryland

Luigi Mangione, the suspect arrested Monday after a manhunt for the killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is a graduate of a prestigious private school.

Mangione, 26, graduated from Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2016 and was valedictorian that year. The elite institution was founded in 1897 and was the first state day school in the USA

“Luigi Mangione’s alleged involvement in this case is deeply disturbing news on top of an already terrible situation,” Gilman said in a statement when reached for comment. “Our condolences go out to all those affected. Here on campus, our focus continues to be on supporting and educating our students.”

Gilman is an all-boys school that serves students from preschool through high school. According to the website, tuition for preschool is around $21,000 per year and for grades 9 through 12 it is over $38,000 per year.

SUSPECT IN HUNT FOR UNITEDHEALTHCARE CEO BRIAN THOMPSON’S KILLER ARREST

A high school classmate of Mangione’s told Fox News Digital that he “seemed like a smart kid” who “always did the right thing.” He “always had a smile on his face. He never really felt like he was socially awkward. That’s why I’m really surprised,” the classmate said.

“I graduated in 2015, he graduated in 2016,” this classmate added. “It’s crazy how people can change 10, 9 years later.”

Mangione, 26, was taken into police custody at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, about 100 miles east of Pittsburgh. Police told Fox News that a person at McDonald’s recognized Mangione from the store Wanted posters of the suspect and then alerted law enforcement.

When police arrived, they spotted Mangione and found a gun believed to have been used in the murder and a fake ID in his pocket, police said.

The NYPD, which had previously described the person involved in the shooting as a person of interest, began calling Mangione a suspect on Monday. NYPD investigators have arrived in Altoona.

Thompson was shot Wednesday in an ambush that was captured on surveillance video. It shows a gunman with his face covered pointing a pistol with a silencer at Thompson and shooting the manager three times outside the Midtown Hilton Hotel at 6:46 a.m.

Thompson was married and had two children.
