Home Alone director Chris Columbus has finally put an end to the incessant question of where Kevin McCallister’s parents got the money to afford their beautiful – and huge – Chicago mansion.

“At the time, John (Hughes) and I had a conversation about it,” Columbus told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Dec. 24, “and we decided on the jobs.”

What exactly did Kevin McCallister’s parents do? Well, the film actually contained a few clues. If you noticed the dancing mannequins that Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) placed in the window to ward off criminals Harry (played by Joe Pesci) and Marv (played by Daniel Stern), you may have guessed that Catherine O’s Kate McCallister ‘Hara was a very successful fashion designer,’ said the director.

As for John Heard’s Peter McCallister, the details are a little more unclear.

“The father could have worked in advertising, based on John Hughes’ own experience,” the 66-year-old noted, “but I don’t remember what the father did.”

However, he knew one thing for sure: Peter had no talent for forensics.

“No organized crime,” he added, “even though there was a lot of organized crime in Chicago back then.”

And after the puzzle is solved, you can finally practice your “Kevin!” pose in peace. After all, Culkin and Brenda Song’s sons are already doing the same thing.

“He thinks he’s Kevin,” Culkin recently told E! News about his oldest, Dakota, 3. “I’m like, ‘Do you remember going down the stairs in the sleigh?’ He goes, “Mmhmm, yeah.” I’m like, “Do you remember when he had yellow hair?” And he goes, ‘Uh-huh, yeah.'”

“‘You’re a liar who lies,'” he jokingly recalled telling his son. “That was me!”

But Culkin’s brother Kieran Culkin – who shares daughter Kinsey, 5, and son Wilder, 3, with his wife Jazz Charton – hasn’t had quite the same experience with his children. In fact, he recently revealed that his children haven’t even seen the film yet.

“There are still some scary parts,” the 42-year-old told E! News earlier this month. “For the three-year-old, there’s the tarantula (and) there’s the guy at the end who said, ‘I’m going to bite all your fingers off.’ That’s scary for a three-year-old.”

However, the Succession star hinted that the first-ever family screening could happen soon.

“We think they might be ready for Home Alone this year,” he revealed. “If not, next year.”
