The Bucks’ Darvin Ham is the talk of the NBA world after their NBA Cup win against the Hawks

The Bucks’ Darvin Ham is the talk of the NBA world after their NBA Cup win against the Hawks

Darvin Ham caused controversy after the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Atlanta Hawks 110-102 in the NBA Cup semifinals. The reason for this is that Ham has never lost an NBA Cup game. Since the 2023 season, the league has introduced the in-season tournament to increase competitiveness throughout the season.

Ham has a 13-0 record in those games, most notably winning the first game with the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite being relieved of his duties in the offseason, Ham joined Doc Rivers’ team with the Bucks. Luckily for Milwaukee, their Cup luck appears to be running out.

After starting with a 2-8 record, they turned things around and moved into the playoff discussion. Even though the playoffs aren’t until April, establishing consistency early in the season is critical. Both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard have improved their games and played well against each other.

Darvin Ham’s impact on the NBA Cup can be felt in the Bucks’ pursuit of the title

In basketball they say: “Ride the hot hand”. While this feeling may not be equivalent in coaching, it could be. Ham’s record is justified as he has never lost a game. The Bucks will play against the winner of the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder game. Ham will look to increase his record to 14-0 and win his first two NBA Cup titles.

However, the Bucks assistant coach was lucky in the draw. For example, last season he coached LeBron James and Anthony Davis en route to winning titles. Now he trains two more superstars in Antetokounmpo and Lillard. Both players can take over a game at any time. That seems to be the case in the tournament as the Greek Freak made history.

Since the ABA-NBA merger, he has the most games in history with more than 30 points, more than 10 rebounds and five or more assists. When it comes to winning, it helps to have one of the best players in the world. Additionally, the Bucks appear to be peaking at the right time. After a slow start, they turned things around thanks to their two superstars.

However, players like Bobby Portis, Gary Trent Jr. and AJ Green have risen to the challenge. Antetokounmpo cited the Bucks’ “unfinished business” as a motivator during the tournament. Combined with a bit of luck, that’s a good foundation for success and possibly another tournament championship this season. With Ham’s luck, the Bucks will advance to the NBA Cup Finals.
