The Celtics make Jayson Tatum a surprise late win against the Magic Monday

Jayson Tatum was unable to compete against the Orlando Magic on Monday night after suffering a late loss just minutes before the first tip. The Celtics did not place the All-Star forward on the team’s injury report until 12 minutes into the game, listing him as questionable due to a non-COVID illness.

Tatum reportedly did not appear with his teammates during the starting lineup, but was replaced by Al Horford in the starting lineup. He was not on the bench with his teammates in the first quarter as the team officially reported him as out of the game.

Monday marks just the third game Tatum has missed this year in the team’s 22-6 start. Boston has gone 2-0 with two wins over the Pistons in games without Tatum this year. The Celtics also got some good injury news on Monday night when Sam Hauser was cleared to play after a two-game absence due to back spasms.

Even without their two best players Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner for a month, the Magic are extremely undermanned due to a tear in the right oblique line. Elsewhere, former Celtics star and Magic center Mo Wagner suffered a torn ACL in Orlando’s final game, sidelining him this year. Gary Harris (hamstring strain) is also out.
