The Christmas weather forecast for Nevada is mixed

Christmas is just around the corner and the weather forecast for Nevada is getting clearer as the holiday approaches. It’s hard to believe, but months ago the weather experts at the Farmer’s Almanac released their annual forecast for what Christmas will look like across America. They like to plan ahead. But now we can look not only at this forecast, but also at the 10-day forecast to see what the weather is likely to be on Christmas Day. Now is the perfect time to look ahead and plan your vacation trips accordingly, and knowing the weather always plays a big role in this.

Nevada Christmas forecast from experts

According to weather experts and forecasters at Weather.com, parts of Nevada will have very nice weather on Christmas Day, while others won’t be so lucky. In Las Vegas, expect a high in the mid 60s with sunny skies and lows in the low 40s, so a very encouraging forecast. However, it will be colder in Reno, with highs only in the 40s and lows in the 20s. Some rain is also expected in Reno on Christmas Eve before Christmas Day.

Now let’s look at Farmer’s Almanac’s Christmas forecast. Christmas falls on Wednesday, December 25th this year, and the Farmer’s Almanac forecast extends from Christmas Eve, December 24th, to Wednesday, December 27th, 2024. Nevada, the Farmer’s Almanac, predicts: “Fine, dry, very cool at Christmas time.” Temperatures are expected to be below 40 degrees, so that’s the cool part. As for the rest of the U.S., they note that “most of the U.S. will experience average to above-average temperatures, so many people are expecting a mild month.”

In general, nationally, they say December precipitation will be above normal in parts of the Great Lakes, the Tennessee Valley, Texas-Oklahoma and the northern Pacific Northwest. Rainfall “near below normal” is expected everywhere else.

If you’re wondering how accurate the current Christmas weather forecast can be, it’s pretty good based on the science of weather forecasting. “A seven-day forecast can accurately predict the weather about 80 percent of the time, and a five-day forecast can accurately predict the weather about 90 percent of the time. However, a 10-day forecast – or longer – is only accurate about half the time,” notes SciJinks. They also explain: “Because we cannot collect data from the future, models must use estimates and assumptions to predict future weather.” So with Christmas still about a week and some changes away, these forecasts have about a 90% probability , predicting exactly what will happen when Santa Claus comes.
