Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury has emerged as a surprising contender to become the Chicago Bears’ next head coach.

Kingsbury’s return to the NFL has been smooth as the Commanders’ offense has evolved from years of dormancy to one of the NFL’s best with Jayden Daniels at quarterback.

Last year, Kingsbury was on USC’s staff and worked directly with Caleb Williams, the Bears’ starting quarterback. According to NFL Network, a possible reunion after the season ends could be in the works.

The Bears are 4-8 after a promising start to the season with a five-game losing streak.

Expectations were incredibly high for Chicago this season as Williams came onto the roster viewed as one of the best quarterback prospects of his generation.

Now he’s being asked to learn a second NFL offense in as many years.

Kingsbury was previously an NFL head coach with the Arizona Cardinals from 2019 to 2022, shortly before his 10-month stint at USC.

It wasn’t expected that his second stint in the NFL would lead to another head coaching opportunity so soon.

However, the Commanders’ turnaround has raised eyebrows around the NFL about how far ahead of schedule the team is in development, and the comparisons to Williams of Daniels are obvious.

Kingsbury was the head coach at Texas Tech throughout Patrick Mahomes’ college career, and the Red Raiders’ offense worked like clockwork. The team’s defense left a lot to be desired.

It was the same story in his time at Arizona, with responsibilities on both sides of the ball.

Kingsbury likely wouldn’t leave his position at Washington until the end of the season if he were to pursue the Bears job.
