The Dolomites, the Atlas and Portillo – three mountains that are a must-visit in 2025

If you’re looking for mountain air and wondering where to go, three destinations are on the radar for 2025: the Dolomites, the Atlas Mountains and Portillo in Chile.

Pinterest Predicts is an annual report that uses Pinterest search data throughout the year to predict next year’s trends in travel and lifestyle with an estimate of 80% accuracy. The Peak Travel Trends category predicts three major travel destinations for 2025: the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, the Dolomites in Italy and Portillo, a Chilean ski resort in the Andes.

An increase in bookings from operators supports this data, as does the fact that these destinations appear on many must-visit travel lists in 2025. Here’s what you should know about all three – the Dolomites, the Atlas Mountains and Portillo Chile.

The Dolomites, Italy

Ten years ago, UNESCO declared the Dolomites, a mountain range in northeastern Italy, a world heritage site. It is home to the very upscale and stylish Cortina d’Ampezzo, surrounded by limestone cliffs that turn pink at dusk and dawn. But you can also choose glacier skiing in the resort of Arabba at 2,511 m, hiking through the surrounding frozen lakes or visiting the village of Castelrotto to explore Europe’s largest alpine pasture. For foodies: The holiday resort of Alta Badia has a Michelin star for each of its 172 residents.

As great for hiking in summer as it is for skiing in winter – there are 12 ski areas, all accessible with the same ski pass, and seven nature parks. Pinterest predicts that the Dolomites will be large in 2025 (up 45% for the Dolomites, Italy).

The Atlas Mountains, Morocco

Morocco was among Lonely Planet’s top travel tips for 2024. It advocated climbing North Africa’s highest mountain (Jebel Toubkal in the High Atlas) to its 4167m peak and advocated camel trekking over the Erg Chebbi dunes in the Merzouga desert. where you can sleep under the stars.

Likewise, the UK’s Telegraph and Times named the country one of the best value for money countries in 2024. Marrakech was one of the cheapest all-inclusive destinations outside Europe in 2023, and its modern rail network makes it easy (and affordable). ) get around.

So Morocco is having a moment. Pinterest predicts the Atlas Mountains will be large (up 30%) in 2025. Chase Travel lists the entire country as one of its 25 trips to take in 2025, explaining how local artists and designers are reclaiming the narrative of the Western counterculture of the ’50s and ’60s and allowing cities like Tangier, for example, to reimagine the city to define their image.

Portillo, Andes, Chile

Located about 90 miles (146 kilometers) from Santiago (and two hours from the new $990 million Santiago International Airport), the Portillo ski resort sits on the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere. It covers around 1,235 hectares of skiable terrain, mostly for advanced skiers, and it is still a relatively undiscovered secret.

According to Bloomberg, it is among the 25 best places to visit in 2025, largely because of little change since it was developed in the 1960s and because of its independence and small size, coupled with extensive slopes.

All 450 guests who visit the resort (there’s no room for more) stay in a single ski-in, ski-out building, where everyone eats together for half a week or week. There’s a cinema, a disco and a piano bar, and with just one building the slopes are accessible and empty.

It’s having a moment, though, as it’s 75 years old and its owners are celebrating with a few seasonal extras that are only available in 2025 – Chilean winemakers, plunge pools and nighttime guided star walks. Pinterest predicts a 195% increase for Portillo, Chile in 2025.

These three mountain regions offer something very different and cater to different tastes. So whether it’s the Dolomites in Italy, Portillo in Chile or the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, there is something to discover in 2025 for every season and every budget.
