The Eagles fan quickly returned the ball that AJ Brown threw into the stands

Pat Driscoll doesn’t regularly attend Eagles games, but a season-ticket holder friend asked the 22-year-old from Audubon, New Jersey, early Sunday if he wanted to go to the game.

For Driscoll, the answer was simple: “Yes, of course. 50 degrees and sunny, go and watch the birds. No doubt.”

He couldn’t have predicted how the rest of the day would unfold.

The Eagles were already well on their way to a decisive win over the rival Cowboys when Driscoll went viral. Eagles quarterback Tanner McKee was on the play for Kenny Pickett when McKee, the Stanford sophomore, threw a jump ball to AJ Brown, whose 20-yard touchdown catch extended the Eagles’ lead to 34-7.

Unaware of the significance of the moment, Brown threw McKee’s first touchdown ball into the seats. Deep into the seats.

Driscoll played wide receiver at Audubon High and tight end at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut.

“I’m just relaxing and I obviously see a ball coming out of the end zone,” he said. “I saw it coming and of course I just grabbed it. My friends said “holy” (expletive). Oh my God. AJ Brown just threw it up, you just caught it.’”

Driscoll quickly realized that this wasn’t just any football. Also for Brown. The receiver was made aware on the sidelines that he had thrown away a souvenir.

“I felt so bad for throwing it so far,” Brown said. “I’m glad we got it back for him.”

McKee said he didn’t see where the ball was going. He was too busy being surrounded by his offensive linemen.

“I just hugged all those guys,” McKee said. “I had no idea where the ball was going.”

It was in Driscoll’s hands.

“I’m holding it,” Driscoll said. “Obviously I don’t want to let it go, AJ Brown just threw it up out of the end zone. I see some people saying he wants the ball back. It meant something.”

Driscoll walked down the steps from his seat in Section 110. At the bottom of the stairs stood several members of the Eagles organization, including do-it-all safety czar Dom DiSandro. There was no negotiation on Driscoll’s side, and he wasn’t even fully aware of what made Ball so special for the Eagles.

“For whatever reason, AJ wanted the ball back, let’s give it back to him,” he said. “It was important to them.”

Brown signed his game-worn jersey after the game and tossed it to Driscoll.

“I’m just happy to be here, man,” Driscoll said. “Hopefully they win this game and then keep it up in the rest of the playoffs. They look good at the moment.”

The notifications on his phone started pouring in.

“All my friends from school text me,” he said. “I didn’t think anything of it. I knew I caught it and then they started asking about it.

“How lucky I am to just sit there and catch the ball.”

Moral of the story: Always say yes.
