The Eagles sign QB Ian Book and RB Lew Nichols to the practice squad

The Eagles added two familiar faces to the practice squad on Thursday, quarterback Ian Book and running back Lew Nichols.

After releasing tight end Kevin Foelsch from the practice squad on Tuesday, the Eagles created additional cap space on Thursday by releasing cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields.

“An extremely productive college career,” head coach Nick Sirianni said of Book on Thursday. “We had the opportunity to get him after he played a little bit in New Orleans. We really enjoyed our time with him while he was here. I had high hopes for him.”

Book (6 feet, 206 pounds), a fourth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2021, was claimed off waivers by the Eagles at the end of the 2022 preseason and spent the entire season on the active roster. He dressed for two games but did not play. He returned in 2023 but did not make the training camp squad. He spent a short time on the New England Patriots practice squad in 2023 and was with the Kansas City Chiefs this past offseason.

At Notre Dame, Book finished his college career as the winningest quarterback of all time (30-5 record) and was a two-time captain, leading the Fighting Irish to two appearances in the College Football Playoff.
