The first snow of December could affect your Monday commute

Today’s forecast:
After weekend temperatures in the 60s, a cold winter storm will bring a significant change to our forecast this morning. The snow should stop early this morning, giving us dry skies for the morning commute. The snowflakes should begin flying on Monument Hill between 7 and 9 a.m. and fill out the rest of the Pikes Peak region by the mid to late morning hours. The snow will spread further south through the afternoon hours before tapering off from north to south tonight.

In addition to the snow, it will be significantly colder on Monday. Today, high temperatures will rise above 30 degrees in only Colorado Springs and Pueblo, and the mid to upper 20s in Woodland Park and the Tri-Lakes area.

Monday Forecast for Southern Colorado (12/9/24)

Colorado Springs Forecast: High: 32; Low: 14. Dry skies will transition to snow showers early as we approach the mid to late morning hours. Heavy snowfall is possible at times this evening, with 1 to 4 inches of snow accumulation expected across the city.

Pueblo Forecast: High: 34; Low: 13. Snow will become heavier in the Pueblo area around midday, with a chance of snow showers this afternoon and into the evening. Snow depth will range from 1 to 3 inches.

Canon City forecast: High: 35; Low: 15. Highs will be much colder than last weekend as our next winter storm brings snow and highs just above freezing to eastern Fremont County today. Eastern Fremont County will see a total of 2 to 5 inches of snow.

Woodland Park Forecast: High: 25; Low: 3. A calm morning will give way to a snowy and cold afternoon, with periods of snow falling late into the evening. Snow depth will range from 3 to 6 inches.

Tri Lakes Forecast: High: 20s/30s; Low: 0s/10s. Snow will begin in the mid to late morning, with snowfall continuing intermittently into the late evening in the Palmer Divide. Snow depth will range from 2 to 5 inches.

Plains forecast: High: 30s/40s; Low: 10s/20s. Accumulations of up to 1 inch are possible on the Plains from today’s storm, with most impacts expected in areas near I-25. Accumulating snowfall is less likely for eastern counties.

Forecast for Walsenburg and Trinidad: High: 30s; Low: 10s. We are under a winter weather advisory for the southern I-25 corridor from 11 a.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, with the worst of the storm expected to hit today and tonight. Total snowfall will be between 3 and 5 inches.

Mountain Forecast: High: 40s; Low: 20s. The winter weather warnings go into effect at 11 a.m. for the Sangres and Wet Mountains and adjacent mountain valleys. Snow totals will be between 5 and 10 inches at the highest elevations and between 3 and 6 inches in the Wet Mountain Valley.

Advanced Forecast Forecast:
There will be some very cold temperatures behind Monday’s departing storm. Tuesday morning will start in the teens with wind chills in the teens in Colorado Springs. Highs on Tuesday will only recover a few degrees, peaking in the mid 30s across the city.

Near-above-average highs will return starting Wednesday, with temperatures in the upper 40s to lower 50s by the end of the week in the Colorado Springs area.
