The former Brewers hurler is reportedly signing a one-year “Prove It” contract with the White Sox in a new role

The Milwaukee Brewers have lost a handful of players to other organizations this winter, and the list has only grown.

The Brewers’ most notable loss this offseason was undoubtedly the departure of shortstop Willy Adames to the San Francisco Giants. However, several other parts of Milwaukee’s 2024 campaign are also in flux – most recently part of their bullpen.

“Free-agent right-handed pitcher Bryse Wilson agreed to terms with the (Chicago) White Sox on a one-year, $1.05 million deal, pending physical,” Ken Rosenthal of The Atheltic reported Wednesday morning. “The deal includes potential performance bonuses of $250,000. Wilson will compete for a spot in the rotation.”

Wilson had a 4.04 ERA with an 82-to-31 strikeout-to-walk ratio, a .252 batting average against and a 1.27 WHIP in 104 2 in 104 2/3 innings in 34 games last season /3 innings.

The Brewers traded the 26-year-old in early 2023 and he has been a serviceable arm out of the bullpen ever since.

The right-hander’s low price and success on the mound make him a low-risk, high-reward player, which could raise questions about why Milwaukee didn’t bring him back to its pitching staff – given that the club is heavy on players of his caliber benefits.

Losing Wilson in the bullpen should force the Brewers to add pitching depth, either through a trade or the free agent market before the 2025 season.
