The Game Awards 2024: Everything announced

The Game Awards 2024 are here and will once again not only honor the best games of the past year, but also give fans an exciting glimpse into the future of video games.

Anything can happen at the Game Awards, and we’re here to round up the biggest and best announcements, trailers, reveals, and more from one of the biggest shows of the year! We’ll also be updating this recap as the show progresses, so make sure you stay tuned and check back!

The Witcher 4 revealed with debut trailer, CD Projekt confirms single-player open-world action role-playing game

CD Projekt Red has officially revealed The Witcher 4 with a beautiful six-minute trailer that focuses on Ciri as the new protagonist instead of Geralt of Rivia. While we haven’t received a release date or window, we have learned that the trailer was pre-rendered in a custom version of Unreal Engine 5 and that it will indeed still be a single-player game.

Elden Ring Nightreign is a standalone co-op spin-off

It turns out our adventures in the Lands Between aren’t over yet, as FromSoftware has just announced Elden Ring Nightreign – a standalone co-op spin-off set in a parallel world to Elden Ring. The game allows players to team up with up to two friends and explore a condensed map of Elden Ring’s Limgrage area, which is infested with random enemies and structures at the start of each session.

Elden Ring Nightreign will be released in 2025 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Fumito Ueda’s next game, codenamed Project Robot, has been officially revealed

Fumito Ueda, the developer best known for games like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, has shared a first look at his next project, codenamed Project Robot. The quick look at this project was breathtaking: a person climbed atop a humanoid mech while a distorted voice counted down the time until a shockwave hit.

Just before the shockwave hit, the player entered the mech’s head and separated it from its body to avoid certain death. There’s no release window or further details yet, but it’s an exciting look at a project that’s sure to capture the hearts and minds of many upon its release.

Split Fiction is the new co-op adventure game from Josef Fares

It Takes Two developer Hazelight Studios officially unveiled Split Fiction at the Game Awards. This new adventure is once again a split-screen co-op title, but this time with two aspiring authors who find themselves in the same simulation of one of their stories.

Each level jumps back and forth between a sci-fi world and a fantasy world, and the two must figure out how to escape through “the worlds they’ve created.”

Capcom is finally bringing Onimusha back

After years of fan outcry, Capcom is finally bringing Onimusha back in 2026. Although we didn’t get to see too much of the game, Onimusha fans were treated to a look at the new adventure coming soon.

The Outer Worlds 2 returns with a brand new trailer

After a short break, The Outer Worlds 2 has returned with a brand new gameplay trailer and confirmation that it will release in 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will officially be released for PC in January 2025

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth officially launches for PC on January 23, 2025, less than a year after its release on PS5. The PC version will contain numerous improvements over its console counterpart and of course open the door to mods and more.

First Borderlands 4 gameplay revealed in Game Awards 2024 trailer

Gearbox Software has released the first gameplay footage of Borderlands 4, which includes an epic battle, Claptrap, a possible look at the playable characters and much more.

Sega wants to compete against Street Fighter and Tekken again with Virtua Fighter

The Game Awards was the place where it was confirmed that Virtua Fighter is officially coming back and that fans can find out much more at a special show taking place tomorrow, December 13th. This is a big deal, especially because we haven’t seen a new mainline entry in the franchise since 2006’s Virtua Fighter 6.

Yakuza / Like a Dragon Dev RGG Studio announces Project Century

Yakuza / Like a Dragon developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has revealed Project Century, a new action game set in 1915 that seems very reminiscent of Yakuza / Like a Dragon. However, it looks a bit bloodier and seems to have some sort of alt-history aspect to it.

Turok Return as a co-op dinosaur hunting action game and farewell to the first person perspective

Turok fans, rejoice! The popular franchise returns as a cooperative dinosaur-hunting action game called Turok: Origins, described as a “new evolution” in the series. In this new version, Turok: Origins will feature third-person action instead of first-person, and multiplayer mode is fully integrated into the campaign. Yes, this means you can bring up to three friends with you on this adventure.

Additionally, players can don a “biomorphic suit” that can capture DNA from enemies to gain powers like lightning and more.

Ninja Gaiden returns as a side-scroller called Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound

Ninja Gaiden returns in summer 2025 as a 2D side-scroller called Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. Instead of Ryu Hayabusa, players take on the role of Kenji Mozu and face off against a demonic army.

Slay the Spire 2 gets an official gameplay trailer

The highly anticipated Slay the Spire 2 has received a brand new gameplay trailer and confirmation that it remains on track to release in Early Access in 2025.

The Secret Level Pac-Man episode is being turned into a Metroidvania with Katsuhiro Harada as producer

The Pac-Man episode of Secret Level is getting its own game called Shadow Labyrinth and aims to tell more about the story of this darker and edgier version of the legendary arcade character. Players will still be running through a maze and trying to eat to stay alive like in the original, but this time it seems to be more of a Metroidvania-style game.

Shadow Labyrinth is set to release in 2025 and Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada is one of the talented minds on the team.

The next game from the developer of Sifu is an online multiplayer football game

Sloclap’s next game is one that not many would have expected, as it is an online multiplayer soccer game called Rematch. This new game is scheduled to release on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in summer 2025, and a beta is expected to begin in the spring.

The football action takes place in a third-person perspective and teams of five players compete against each other for a chance at glory. Additionally, the game takes place in closed virtual reality arenas and there are no fouls, penalties or off-field penalties.

Palworld’s next expansion is Feybreak, releasing this month

Palworld’s next expansion is called Feybreak and will be released on December 23, 2024. At the Game Awards, Pocketpair also revealed a new trailer showing more of this expansion and the game’s “largest, harshest and most mysterious” island added to Palworld to date. It is also said to be six times larger than Sakurajima.

Dave the Diver: In the Jungle is a new expansion coming in late 2025

Dave the Diver journeys into the jungle in a brand new expansion, scheduled for release in late 2025. A short trailer gives a glimpse of the adventure that lies ahead for our favorite deep sea explorer/sushi restaurant manager.
