The Lions add two defensive linemen ahead of the Bills' showdown; Za'Darius Smith and Christian Mahogany fined

The Detroit Lions have added two defensemen to the active roster ahead of Sunday’s showdown against the Buffalo Bills at Ford Field.

Detroit signed defensive back Jamal Adams and linebacker Abraham Beauplan from the practice squad on Saturday.

Adams was signed as a free agent by Detroit on December 1 and made his debut in the Lions’ 34-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers. He was credited with one tackle in eight snaps. Beauplan, meanwhile, played in two games for Detroit (at Green Bay in Week 9 and at Houston in Week 10) and recorded 20 special teams snaps.

Adams will help fill the void left by fullback Trevor Nowaske, who was forced out of the game this week due to a concussion.

Two Lions fined

The NFL fined Lions edge defender Za’Darius Smith a $6,722 fine for roughing the passer in last week’s win over Green Bay and one against rookie offensive lineman Christian Mahogany Fined $4,609 for catching a Packers defender’s facemask while run blocking.

Smith hit Packers quarterback Jordan Love in the head with his forearm while rushing toward the passer. He was not assessed a penalty for the game. Since moving to the Lions from the Cleveland Browns at this year’s trade deadline, Smith has recorded 20 pressures and three sacks in four games.
