The McCallister home “Home Alone” found new owners just in time for Christmas

The McCallister home “Home Alone” found new owners just in time for Christmas

The McCallister residence has new guards, which means it’s time to upgrade its makeshift security system. For some reason, a ring camera on the front door seems more practical than a pair of children’s binoculars.

The house in Winnetka, Illinois was shown in the 1990s Home aloneThe Chris Columbus-directed film, starring Macaulay Culkin, opened for $5.25 million. And now, just in time for Christmas — the infamous holiday when Culkin’s 8-year-old Kevin McCallister’s family abandoned him while they vacationed — homeowners snapped up the property in less than a week after making the offer.

“We are thrilled with the way this home has captured everyone’s attention and hearts because of its well-deserved place in film history and the timeless vacation memories it evokes,” said real estate agents Dawn McKenna and Katie Moor of Coldwell Banker Realty in a statement to PEOPLE.

The home features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a gym, a state-of-the-art movie theater, a restroom, two laundry rooms, an indoor sports court with a 3-point line, and an attached three-car heated garage. The listing garnered national attention, especially after Culkin himself revealed that he had once considered purchasing it.

“I almost wanted to buy it – just for fun,” he said earlier this month. “I have children,” he added. “I’m a busy man.”

According to Mansion Global, Tim and Trisha Johnson purchased the home back in 2012 for $1.585 million. It was originally built in 1921 but was renovated in 2018 with amenities like French doors to the backyard, a family room and a chef’s kitchen. Trisha revealed in early May last year: “Sometimes we hear Kevin screaming (outside). It’s a lot of fun to see people just as excited as they get when they see my house.”

Good luck to the new buyers defending their homes Home alone fans.
