The midweek storm will bring strong winds and the risk of flooding

Monday’s rain was just the foretaste of the powerful storm system that will hit New England on Wednesday. Here’s what you can expect from tomorrow’s Storm Team 10 weather alert:

It is expected to rain in most cases as winds increase tomorrow morning. Southerly winds and rain bands will reach peak intensity tomorrow afternoon and evening as the cold front approaches.

The risk of flooding will continue to increase throughout the day tomorrow as rainfall accumulates and becomes heavier at times. The Weather Prediction Center has placed a slight risk of excessive precipitation across much of the region, with widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches or more. What is typical for long-term events is that there are likely to be places where the amount of precipitation is too high and the amount of precipitation can be in excess of 4 to 5″ precipitation.

Make sure you have a way to receive potential alerts and NEVER drive through floodwaters. Storm Team 10 meteorologist AJ Mastrangelo had more to say about the threat of freshwater and saltwater flooding this morning:

As this is a complex system, strong winds are also forecast for tomorrow afternoon and evening. Because of this, the National Weather Service has placed much of our area under a high wind watch.

As we wait out the winds tomorrow, gusts will approach 40 mph by late morning, peaking at 60 mph as we continue toward dinner. Coming directly from the nearly frictionless waters of the Atlantic, the strongest winds are expected in south-facing coastal locations. Power outages may occur. So make the necessary preparations today.

Everything will calm down tomorrow evening before the weather picture improves at the end of the week.

If it is safe to do so, be sure to submit your photos/videos/reports to help Storm Team 10 analyze the situation.
