The most shocking snubs and surprises from the 2025 Golden Globe nominations

There were some notable omissions and pleasant surprises among the Golden Globe nominees.

On Monday, December 9, the nominations for the 82nd annual Golden Globes were announced, highlighting this year’s standout films and television.

Emilia Perez had the most nominations among films, 10 in total, and The bear led the TV side with five nominations, followed by Shogun And Just murders in the building with four each.

Comedian Nikki Glaser will host the Golden Globes ceremony, streaming live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 5, at 8 p.m. ET.

Snub: Danielle Deadwyler for “The Piano Lesson”

Despite delivering one of the year’s most acclaimed performances in Malcolm Washington’s directorial debut, Deadwyler, 42, was not recognized for her work in the supporting actress category, reflecting her shocking snub Until in 2022. For her work in The piano lessonDeadwyler, an adaptation of August Wilson’s 1987 play of the same name, was recently nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award.

Snub: Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool & Wolverine

The Golden Globes are one of the few awards shows that focus on comedy. So surely Reynolds would get a nomination for his hilarious turn as Deadpool in one of the biggest films of the year? Unfortunately, everyone’s favorite mercenary with a mouth didn’t make the cut, despite all the goodwill from Reynolds, who also co-wrote the blockbuster’s screenplay. His snub comes as he defends comedic works as “also very difficult” compared to more dramatic works. Comedy, he argued, “has an added dimension in that it is meant to look and feel effortless. You intentionally hide the seams and the seams.”

Surprise: “The Apprentice”

Despite all this, Stan received a nomination for his transformative performance as Young Trump (he also received a nomination for his work in Another man), as did Jeremy Strong for his supporting performance as Trump’s lawyer Roy Cohn.

Snub: Marianne Jean-Baptiste for “Hard Truths”

Jean-Baptiste, Golden Globe nominee in 1997 Secrets and liesShe failed to receive her second nomination for her praised performance in Mike Leighs Hard truths. Snub: Meryl Streep for “Only Murders in the Building”

After receiving a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the 2024 Emmys, Meryl Streep was shut out for her role in The Golden Globes Just murders in the building. The show’s three leads – Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez – each secured a nomination for their respective performances, and although the show received a nomination for best television series – musical or comedy, Streep was eliminated from the competition. Streep has already racked up 30 Golden Globe nominations and eight wins throughout her career.

Snub: “The Perfect Couple”

Despite an all-star cast led by Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber, the hit Netflix series based on Elin Hilderbrand’s 2018 novel of the same name received no nominations this year. Kidman and Schreiber play the heads of the Winbury family as their son Benji (Billy Howle) prepares for his wedding to outsider Amelia (Eve Hewson) before tragedy strikes and a murder investigation drags the entire family into the abyss. Meghann Fahy and Dakota Fanning also star.
