The NFL calls itself “Simpsons” and makes fun of Arizona State

Ah, “The Simpsons” and “Monday Night Football” – two of my passions in one place.

And of course they made fun of Arizona State University.

All of this happened on Monday night, when the greatest show of all time teamed up with ESPN, Disney and the NFL’s “Monday Night Football” to create “The Simpsons Funday Football,” which featured the actual Monday night game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Bengals was presented in near real time as a motion-controlled, animated game.

In other words, the players looked like they were on “The Simpsons.”

Occasionally Homer, Lisa, Bart and others, including poor old Milhouse, would fill in for players. (When Milhouse finally came in, he immediately dropped a pass, because of course he did. “Nobody likes Milhouse,” as one of the show’s great lines goes.)

What is Simpsons Funday Football?

The Simpsons Funday Football was a fantastic technical achievement and a fun way to watch the game (at least if you’re a “Simpsons” fanatic) – and it was a good game too, as the Bengals won 27-20.

Mina Kimes, Chandler’s ESPN personality, served as an analyst for the game along with Dan Orlovsky; Drew Carter was the deciding factor. They were also animated like “Simpsons” characters and absolutely loved it. Kimes, in particular, constantly threw out quotes from the show.

It was all pretty silly and sometimes hilarious, although perhaps a little less so if you’re an ASU fan. During player introductions, where players traditionally give their names and state where they studied, Krusty the Clown revealed his real name and alma mater: “Herschel Krustofsky, Clown College, also known as ASU.”

Hahaha. (I have a master’s degree from ASU. I paid enough there to enjoy a joke about it.)
