The offense’s best play still wasn’t enough

Rating the Jets’ 32-26 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday:

attack

It was the best game of the season for the offense, but it still wasn’t enough.

The Jets rolled for 402 yards and appeared to be in control of the game through three quarters.

You can criticize them for going 2-for-5 in the red zone or making two three-and-outs in the fourth quarter, but overall this was a strong performance.

QB Aaron Rodgers (27 of 39, 339 yards, 1 TD, 104.5 rating) had his best game as a Jet.

He faced WRs Davante Adams (9 catches, 109 yards, 1 TD) and Garrett Wilson (7, 114) and showed what the offense should look like.

defense

This device continues to disappoint.

On Sunday, they failed to get a single quarterback hit, let alone a sack on Tua Tagovailoa (33-for-47, 331 yards, 2 TDs, 104.1 rating).

They didn’t force a turnover and failed when the Jets needed a stop in the fourth quarter and overtime.

They gave up a total of 375 yards.

DJ Reed had a costly pass interference penalty that resulted in the Dolphins tying the game early in the fourth quarter.

Miami WRs Tyreek Hill (10 catches, 115 yards, 1 touchdown) and Jaylen Waddle (9 catches, 99 yards) paced the Jets.

Kicker Anders Carlson made a game-winning field goal in the fourth quarter to give the Jets the lead, but then he missed the kickoff in the end zone and the Dolphins brought the ball back to midfield for the game-winning tying field goal to force an extension.

Carlson made four field goals in the game, but his missed kickoff was costly. \

Coaching

The Jets continue to find ways to lose, and that reflects poorly on this coaching staff.

That may not be entirely fair, but the Jets just seem to be missing something when it comes to closing out close games.

Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich’s team was sloppy down the stretch, resulting in another disappointing loss.

Offensive playmaker Todd Downing had a strong performance and got people going on offense.
