The Packers receive “good news” about Christian Watson’s knee injury

The Green Bay Packers have received “good news” about Christian Watson’s knee injury and there is a possibility he could play against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Watson was injured after a player landed on Watson’s knee at the end of Monday night’s run against the New Orleans Saints. While the Packers were concerned Monday after the game, Tuesday’s test revealed nothing more than a bruise.

“We have good news about him, so it’s more of a bruise,” coach Matt LaFleur said Tuesday. “It was when the guy on the sideline fell on him. We still need to be able to function, so we’ll see how he trains this week and see where we are.”

Watson left the game in the first half, returned briefly and then was eliminated for the remainder of the contest. He finished the game with two runs for 23 yards and zero catches on one target.

The Packers have a short week ahead of them, coming off a Monday night game at Green Bay and heading into a Sunday afternoon game at Minnesota, which may complicate Watson’s path back to the field this week. The Packers end the season at home against the Chicago Bears.

Watson has 29 catches for 620 yards and two touchdowns and four rushes for 23 yards in 14 games. He is averaging 21.4 yards per reception and 11.9 yards per target, both career highs.
