The popular western Colorado Springs restaurant says it has permanently closed

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A popular breakfast spot in Old Town Colorado City announces it is closing its doors for good.

“I am so sorry to inform you that Mountain Shadows Restaurant is permanently closed,” a social media post on the restaurant’s Facebook page began. “My heart is breaking; It just didn’t work out.”

Known for its giant cinnamon rolls, giant pancakes and other delicious dishes, Mountain Shadows Restaurant has been a popular spot in Old Town Colorado City for years. Customers who gave the product a hefty 4.6-star rating on Google Reviews expressed shock, sadness and dismay at the news.

“I can’t imagine the west side without Mt. Shadows!” Read one comment on the Facebook post.

The news was sudden, as the previous Facebook post simply wished people a “happy and safe Thanksgiving” and stated that the restaurant would reopen with normal hours on Black Friday.

The Facebook post said post-COVID difficulties forced the owners to act.

According to its website, Mountain Shadows Restaurant has been family-owned and operated for more than 30 years, first operating in Lake George before opening in Old Colorado City.

In 2015, it was featured by Guy Fieri on the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.”

A handwritten sign could be seen on the door Tuesday, noting that the door was permanently closed and thanking guests for their support.
