The Red Wings lose another one-goal game as the skid reaches five goals

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings were once again close, but not good enough.

The Colorado Avalanche withstood intense pressure from the Red Wings in the final two minutes of regulation Saturday to secure a 2-1 win at Little Caesars Arena.

The Red Wings (10-13-4) have lost five straight (0-3-2). Each of their last seven defeats ended by a one-goal margin.

Colorado (15-13-0) improved to 10-0-0 while leading after two periods. The Avalanche have a record of 11-0-1 in their last 12 games against the Red Wings.

Ville Husso made his third consecutive start as Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon were injured and both were expected to miss at least one more game. Husso made 23 saves, giving his team another chance to win. Alexandar Georgiev stopped 29 shots for the Avalanche.

Lucas Raymond brought the Red Wings onto the field with 1:47 left in the second period and reduced his team’s deficit to 2-1. Dylan Larkin’s shot went past Raymond, who was battling at the front of the net. It was Raymond’s 10th goal, his eighth in the last nine games.

Cale Makar gave Colorado a 2-0 lead with a long-range goal 28 seconds into a power play at 2:44 seconds.

Valeri Nichushkin scored the first goal at 10:48 of the first period with a shot from the slot.

The Red Wings visit the Buffalo Sabers on Monday (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network).
