The referee who worked for Ohio State against Tennessee in the College Football Playoff has a spotty past

In 2015, Miami miraculously defeated Duke with a last-second touchdown. On a kickoff return after the Blue Devils had taken a three-point lead, the Hurricanes had an eight-yard play that resulted in a game-winning touchdown.

However, it appeared that a Miami player was on the ground with the ball during the game. The referees did not overturn the decision, resulting in a suspension from the ACC. Magallanes and the other officers involved were subsequently suspended.

In 2021, Tennessee fans got a firsthand look at the questionable ending with Magallanes on the field.

The Vols appeared to score an overtime touchdown to beat Purdue in the Music City Bowl, but the runner was ruled a narrow touchdown despite stretching the ball well over the goal line before falling to the ground.

That year, Magallanes was on the team that led Miami’s win over Virginia Tech. The game had a controversial ending when a “Hail Mary” attempt by the Hokies was ruled incomplete after a lengthy video review.
