The sequel to The Batman was just delayed a full year

Robert Pattinson’s “Batman” is coming back to theaters a little later than expected. diversity reports that Warner Bros. has pushed back the film’s release date by a full year, from October 2, 2026 to October 1, 2027.

Since that film has been delayed, there remains a gap that will be filled by Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s new film with Tom Cruise, which does not yet have a title. This release date puts it in prime position to compete during awards season.

Matt Reeves, who directed The Batman and returns for the sequel, said the film is expected to begin filming in 2025, so a 2027 release date would allow enough time for post-production and any necessary reshoots.

Production on the new Iñárritu film, meanwhile, was secretive throughout production but features a star-studded cast that includes Sandra Hülser, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde and Riz Ahmed, and is reportedly considered one “The most powerful man in the world” who “embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he is the savior of humanity before the catastrophe he unleashes destroys everything.”

In addition to these major changes, Warner Bros. made other changes to its release schedule, including changing the release dates for Bong Joon-ho Mickey 17 through March 7 and Ryan Coogler sinner until April 18th. These films are among the most hotly anticipated titles of 2025, and it’s unclear what led to the decision to change their release dates other than that fact Mickey 17 has been finished for some time now. That is possible sinner I just needed the extra weeks to complete post-production.
