The Sharks’ William Eklund is out day-to-day with an upper-body injury

It has been reported that San Jose Sharks forward William Eklund is out day-to-day with an upper-body injury. The team announced that he will also not be playing for Friday night’s team game against the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Sharks have not revealed what exactly Eklund is suffering from. The 22-year-old played in the team’s final game before the holiday break, scoring a goal in a 4-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks last Monday.

This is not the first time Eklund has had to attend a game as a fan due to an upper body injury this season. He missed a game against the Winnipeg Jets on October 18 and was a game-time decision in several contests in the opening month of the season due to injury.

Eklund’s absence comes as he was one of the team’s most consistent scorers in December. He had picked up a point in four of the last seven games before the break and had three goals and five points so far this month.

In 36 of San Jose’s 37 games, Eklund scored seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points, ranking second on the team, behind only Mikael Granlund.

In four seasons in the NHL, the Stockholm native has recorded 25 goals and 54 assists for 79 points in 133 games.

Friday night’s clash with the Golden Knights is the first of six home games for the Sharks, which also includes hosting the Calgary Flames on Saturday evening.

The Sharks (11-20-6) are in last place in the Pacific Division, two points ahead of the Chicago Blackhawks and have the worst record in the NHL. San Jose is also 12 points behind the Dallas Stars for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
