The storm is not over yet; Here’s what Utah can expect next

A long line of storms have moved through the state… including one today. Combined, they could potentially bring two feet or more of snow to our northern mountains as well as rain and snow to northern Utah valleys. Here’s what to expect from the rest of the waves that will traverse the region…

STORM TODAY

Today’s wave will bring mostly valley rain and mountain snow to northern and central Utah. However, it will be cold enough for snow in the Uinta Basin and Castle Country. 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible there. However, it will only rain on the Wasatch Front. Mountain ski resorts could see 4 to 8 inches of snow today, with some isolated spots getting even more. The Wasatch Mountain valleys like Heber and Park City will likely see 2 to 4 inches of snow. These showers will ease this evening and stop completely overnight.

STORM ON SATURDAY

Another storm will move across northern Utah early this weekend. Tomorrow morning it could be cold enough to get a mix of rain and snow in the valleys. But that will quickly turn to rain by mid-morning. The rain will continue off and on into the afternoon and evening. There will continue to be snow on the mountains during this period. These showers will move north into Idaho by Saturday night.

SUNDAY AND MONDAY STORM

Sunday will start out dry across the state, but northern Utah will see showers develop in the late afternoon and evening as the caboose in this storm track moves into the region. These showers will begin as rain but will turn into a rain-snow mix or pure snowfall by Sunday night. A few snow showers may last into early Monday before tapering off.

The weather is expected to be calmer on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day and for the rest of the first week of the new year.
