The TV series “The American Dream” gets a new host from Green Bay

Tara Sherman, a Green Bavaria native, will appear in the new season of "The American Dream," a television series that highlights lifestyle and real estate in various cities across the United States

Green Bay has been proven to be one of the best places to live in several studies and surveys in recent years. When a local real estate agent learned she would have the chance to appear on national television, she knew she had the opportunity to demonstrate the city’s sense of community.

Green Bay’s Tara Sherman will host the new season of “The American Dream,” an Emmy Award-nominated national television series that highlights the lifestyle and real estate in various cities across the United States – from small towns to big cities showcasing what different markets across the country have to offer.

Sherman knows what it’s like to be a business owner – she’s the co-founder of Legacy First, a real estate agency based in Green Bay. One of Sherman’s goals with this new opportunity is to showcase the business opportunities Green Bay has to offer.

“My goal with this show is to bring awareness and attention to how great Green Bay is by telling the stories of those doing good in the community,” Sherman told the Press-Gazette. “And by sharing life with people who are doing this work, whether through small businesses, through large corporations, through nonprofit work or just by being a really good citizen here.”

The opportunity to host the show arose from an email from HGTV — one Sherman initially dismissed as junk mail and almost deleted. After reading through it, she contacted the show’s producers, who had Sherman’s name on a short list of people they had in mind for the season.

The first episode, filmed on November 8th, features Vicki Fabry and her family. Fabry is the founder and owner of the Legacy Hotel, 1004 Brett Favre Pass, and her son Andrew Fabry is the owner of Badger State Brewing, 990 Tony Canadeo Run, both in Green Bay. Sherman visited the two at their homes in Allouez since the two are neighbors.

During the episode, Sherman asked why Andrew Fabry decided to keep the business in Green Bay and not move to a larger market like Milwaukee. His answer was family and the idea of building a legacy created in Green Bay.

“I think it speaks to the roots and I think it speaks to the support that businesses receive here. Small businesses are the heartbeat of our city (Green Bay) and the Fox Valley,” Sherman said. “There are big bucks here, but it’s a smaller market. So it’s kind of the best of both worlds because you have really good support from all sides and once you make a name for yourself here, people will just continue to support you.”

During the introduction to episodes of The American Dream, host Craig Sewing asks the question: Is the American Dream dead? The moment people stop dreaming, he says, is the moment it might as well be.

When asked what she believes the “American Dream” is, Sherman said part of it is pursuing the things that make you happy.

“And as you do that, try to create opportunities for others to find joy with you. “I think of the people here who want the American dream of owning a house with a white picket fence, or maybe a condo with a water view,” she said. “I think that the American dream is really to be able to do all of these things and not take anything away from anyone, but expand opportunities for others.”

Sherman said the show’s new season is expected to premiere in early January. “The American Dream” airs on multiple cable and streaming providers, including CNBC, Amazon Prime, HGTV and more.
