The Wolves are tripped up by the Admirals 4-1

MILWAUKEE – The Wolves’ six-game winning streak ended as they lost 4-1 to the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday night at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

Despite holding a 44-18 shots advantage, the Wolves were only able to get a late goal from Ronan Seeley as Chicago also had its eight-game point streak snapped in the first of two consecutive meetings between the Central Division rivals.

“I just didn’t think we were ready to play,” Seeley said. “Our details just weren’t there right away when we dropped the puck. They were able to play their game from the start, but we couldn’t.”

The Admirals took a 2-0 lead at the first intermission on goals from Kieffer Bellows and Ryan Ufko – the latter while Milwaukee was on the power play.

The Wolves outscored Milwaukee 16-2 in the second half, but neither team was able to score to set up the third period.

Bellows struck again in the third period, making it 3-0 before the Wolves took the field.

Seeley ended Milwaukee goaltender Matthew Murray’s shutout effort with just over a minute left in the third period. The Wolves defenseman shot a one-timer from the top of the right circle that hit Murray on the glove side. Domenick Fensore provided an assist for Seeley’s second goal of the season.

“Dom made a nice pass and I was lucky to miss (Murray),” Seeley said. “He stopped 43 (shots), but we have to bury our chances – that’s what matters. We have to persevere.”

Ozzy Wiesblatt’s goalless goal in the final seconds capped off the scoring.

Spencer Martin (14 saves) took the Wolves’ goal loss, while Murray (43 saves) secured the victory for the Admirals.

Chicago fell to 14-10-2-0 this season, while Milwaukee improved to 14-8-1-3.

“We have to make sure we establish our game early (Saturday night) and don’t let them get caught up in their game,” Seeley said. “Let’s go back to a new series. That’s our mindset.”

Next: The Wolves host the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday evening (7 p.m.) at Allstate Arena.
