The Yankees remain committed to the free agent market, including signing Pete Alonso

Even after last week’s hectic activity, the Yankees’ roster has plenty of question marks, perhaps the biggest at first base – if Cody Bellinger doesn’t end up there – and at second base – if Jazz Chisholm Jr. doesn’t make it from third.

General manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday that he continues to work with the agents of most of the “above average” options available at the spots and outfield.

And he said Pete Alonso was also on the list.

Alonso is among the biggest free agents remaining and the Yankees are also pursuing Christian Walker, Carlos Santana and Paul Goldschmidt, according to sources.

Santana and Goldschmidt wouldn’t cost as much, which the Yankees might like given the prices of Bellinger and left-hander Max Fried.

Signing one of them would likely move Bellinger to center, while moving Aaron Judge back to right field and perhaps Jasson Dominguez to left field, where he struggled in September.

The GM made it clear that Dominguez would play every day, either in the majors or at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, depending on how the rest of the offseason goes in the Bronx.

“I would like to see Dominguez get his chance now,” Cashman said. “He’s young. He has to earn it and keep it.”

The Yankees also remain in contact with switch-hitter Anthony Santander, who served primarily as a right fielder with Baltimore and has minimal experience at first base.

Cashman initially repeatedly touted Ben Rice as an internal possibility, but Rice faltered for most of his time in the majors last season.

And as for second base, Cashman added that internal candidates like Oswald Peraza or Oswaldo Cabrera could be added to the infield mix if he doesn’t get one via free agency or a trade.

Aaron Boone said Devin Williams will be the starter after moving from Milwaukee last week.

The manager added that he spoke with Luke Weaver about his potential role after Weaver emerged as a top closer in the second half of the regular season and playoffs.

Boone added that Weaver still closes out plays on occasion.

Both Williams and Weaver are eligible to become free agents after the season.

Cashman said the team has not discussed extensions with any of the pitchers while they are still trying to put together the 2025 roster.

As the Yankees look for help in the infield, Cashman said they haven’t forgotten about DJ LeMahieu, who is coming off another miserable, injury-plagued season.

“He is a professional and will do everything in his power to contribute,” Cashman said of LeMahieu, who has two years and $30 million left on his contract.

“I believe he will go into camp healthy and try to erase the tough memories of the last two seasons,” Cashman said. “Injuries have thrown him off track.”

Last season’s regular second baseman, Gleyber Torres, remains a free agent and Cashman said he has spoken to his agent, but the Yankees don’t seem very interested in reuniting.

Pitching coach Matt Blake said the Yankees never discussed Clay Holmes becoming the starter, although he wasn’t particularly surprised that the right-hander, who signed a three-year, $38 million contract with the Mets, was interested in a move be interested.

“His arsenal kept getting bigger,” Blake said. “He has two breaking balls, a four-seater and always talked about a change. I think he’s smart enough to know how to expand his arsenal. … I understand the thought process for him and for other teams.”

The Yankees still need to replace assistant pitching coach Desi Druschel, who left for the Mets to fill a similar role.

Blake called recently re-signed right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga “a reliever with great leverage,” but they won’t push him back on the mound.
