There are rainy days ahead

  • Slippery roads overnight
  • Rain until the weekend
  • Mild at the end of 2024, cold at the beginning of 2025

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – We hope your day today was full of holiday cheer!

As evening approaches, clouds will increase, setting the stage for patchy drizzle or freezing drizzle overnight. Temperatures in the mid to upper 20s can cause slippery patches on untreated roads, especially in areas north of I-94. Light fog may also form, reducing visibility but not significantly affecting travel.

Drizzle could increase Thursday morning and light rain is expected in the afternoon as warmer air moves into the region. Rain will be steady across southern Wisconsin from Thursday night through Friday, with intermittent showers continuing into the weekend. While rainfall totals are expected to remain under half an inch, wet roads are possible during peak travel season.

Travel and vacation…

If you’re heading home this holiday season, plan on wet but manageable conditions. Rain is most likely to occur Friday morning and evening, with occasional lighter showers continuing into Sunday. Temperatures will remain well above normal, meaning there will be no black ice on most roads. However, fog could occasionally cause visibility problems. For drivers and fliers, these mild conditions should generally allow for smooth travel, but check the forecast for local rain impacts.

The year ends…

As we approach New Year’s Eve, the mild pattern continues. There may be some light showers, but temperatures will remain comfortably above freezing, making outdoor celebrations a viable option. Bring a raincoat or umbrella just in case, but there are no signs of winter weather to hinder your plans. Looking ahead, cooler air may arrive later in the week, so enjoy the unseasonal warmth while it lasts.
