Thiago Motta insists Juventus need to be more clinical and score third goal against Fiorentina: ‘I don’t believe in bad luck’

Juventus were held to a 2-2 draw by Fiorentina at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on Sunday.

The Bianconeri remain unbeaten in Serie A this season, but have now conceded 11 draws.

In his post-match interviews, Motta said that defensive errors were not the reason why Juventus couldn’t win today.

“We always tried to attack to score the third goal. We had to score the third goal to end the game, but we gave them the chance to stay in the game,” he told Sky Sport Italia (via Ilbianconero.com).

“I wouldn’t focus on that (defensive error). We still had a few days to rest, so we had energy, but we didn’t put the game away. We had to approach the game differently. We conceded too much at the back, but they are a good team. Ultimately, it’s the result that counts and we couldn’t score an additional goal.

“We had a lot of good moments today and deserved the third goal. “We were missing that today,” continued the former midfielder.

“We handled the defensive phase well in other games, including against Manchester City. Today we had to score the third goal to end the game. We have guys like Khephren Manu, Savo, Francisco and Koopmeiners who have the desire to go forward and score goals. You can also drag the others.

“We need to be more clinical and improve. That’s where you make a difference.”

During a post-match press conference attended by Football Italia, Motta added: “I don’t believe in bad luck. We should have finished the game and not given the opponent a chance. I don’t believe in bad luck. I believe in merit.”

Juventus now travel to Saudi Arabia where they will face Milan in the Supercoppa semi-final on January 3rd.

Juventus has 11 draws and seven wins in Serie A this season.

Their next league game is the Torino derby against Torino on January 11th.
