Thursday will be cool and windy, with heavy rain returning this weekend

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – We have reached that time of year when the weather changes every day or every other day. We’ll see a lot of these twists and turns over the next week, but the bottom line is that cool and rainy weather is expected for the weekend.

Today: We have areas of dense fog that have developed along the I-30 corridor in northern ArkLaTex, and in areas like Texarkana, this fog may occur until 8 or 9 a.m. Temperatures will be in the 40s and low 50s, but another cold front is arriving today. This prevents temperatures from warming up significantly.

Clouds will be slow to clear this morning, but we should see some sun across northern ArkLaTex today, with lingering clouds keeping it mostly cloudy across eastern Texas and Louisiana. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 50s, with a breezy northerly wind gusting up to 20 miles per hour, adding a wind chill factor to temperatures.

The passing front should bring some sunshine to the northern ArkLaTex as dry northerly winds begin. It will remain mostly cloudy along I-20 in Shreveport/Bossier and mostly cloudy to cloudy in Natchitoches.

Tonight: It will be a very cold night with temperatures below freezing and partly cloudy skies. Lows will be in the mid to upper 20s. So make sure you cover your plants, bring your pets inside, and protect your pipes.

Friday: Friday will be a cool day with morning temperatures in the low 20s and afternoon highs in the mid to upper 40s. It will be partly to mostly cloudy with light rain expected Friday night into Saturday morning.

Rain on the weekend: Rain will continue early Saturday and there is some uncertainty as to whether the rain will ease or continue throughout the day. I expect there will be a few hours of dry weather by midday Saturday, so this may be the best time to put up Christmas lights or decorations as Sunday may be a lost cause.

Heavy rain is expected from Saturday night into Sunday morning, with continuous showers and isolated thunderstorms throughout the day on Sunday. Highs will return to the upper 50s and lower 60s, which could lead to a few storms, but there does not appear to be any concern for severe weather at this time. Rainfall accumulations over the weekend will be 1 to 2 inches along the I-30 corridor, about 2 inches along I-20 and nearly 3 inches in areas near Natchitoches.

Next week: Monday will be drier and the air will be warmer for a day as high temperatures will be in the low 70s. This will be followed by a cooling trend as highs will fall back into the 50s by midweek. There is a chance of light rain from Tuesday to Wednesday.
