BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Today, Saturday, December 28th, is the first alert weather day.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected in our viewing area today.

Some of the stronger storms can produce hail, damaging winds, heavy rain and even tornadoes.

Scattered showers and storms are possible this morning in parts of southern Louisiana and southwest Mississippi, where a few strong storms are also possible. Our increased risk of severe weather for our viewing area should continue into the evening and overnight hours.

A line of squalls is expected to move through the area this evening and tonight, increasing our chances of strong to severe storms. You should remain aware of the weather until storms leave the area later tonight.
