Today it ends with storms, snow and rain

The rain-snow line eventually moved a little further east, bringing snow to more southeastern locations, including half an inch in Rockland, Taunton and the National Weather Service office in Norton.

“Snow intensity has allowed precipitation to overcome limiting surface temperatures and bring some snow as far southeast as our Norton office!” the NWS said in a post on X this morning. “Along and even southeast of the I- 95 corridor, muddy accumulations of approximately one inch are possible.”

By late morning, only isolated snow and rain showers will continue to move across southern New England as the system retreats. There’s a chance of a spotty shower on the way home from work today with partly cloudy skies.

As you head out the door this morning, temperatures will be around 30°C, slowly rising to 40°C in Boston and around 40°C west of the city.

But you’ll definitely notice the strong winds, and the wind chill will make it feel much colder today – in the 20s and 20s in places. The core of this storm strengthened, creating a steep pressure gradient that resulted in winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts of up to 40 mph in Boston and most of southern New England.

As you drive home today you should see mostly clear skies with possible heavy snow showers.

Southern New England: Weather-wise it’s a mess in the morning as steady to heavy rain remains east of I-495 and south of the Mass Pike during the morning commute. By midday much of the area will dry out and there will be isolated showers. With gusty winds, temperatures barely reach 40 degrees.

Central/West Fair: Stay in the 30s throughout the day. Worcester County may see steady precipitation during the morning commute, while the Berkshires will see lightening. At the beginning of the working day the situation begins to ease, with a few snow showers until late morning. Gusty winds will prevail in the area for most of the day, while the route home is expected to be largely dry.

Cape and Islands: Wet and windy in the morning until it eases off in the afternoon. A wind warning is in effect until this evening. Strong winds will be blowing across the peninsula and islands, with some gusts approaching 40 miles per hour. A few splashes may lag behind the system in the afternoon, but the second half of the day should be mostly dry.

Northern New England: This morning, the bulk of the storm hit New Hampshire and Maine, while Vermont is dealing with persistent light snow. Regardless, it will be a chaotic first half of the day in the north, where there was snow in most places except coastal areas of Maine and New Hampshire. The storm is quickly moving out of northern New England, with isolated rain and snow showers moving behind the system and continuing through the afternoon in otherwise cold and windy conditions.
