FOX 17 Chief Meteorologist Kevin Craig’s forecast: A winter storm warning is in effect for Allegan, Ottawa, Muskegon and Oceana counties until 7 p.m. today. The heaviest snow falls in these locations. Another 2 to 3 inches is likely present. A winter weather advisory is in effect for all other counties in West Michigan, except Mecosta, Montcalm and Branch counties. Lower amounts apply here. A blast of arctic air has rolled in from Canada and temperatures have plummeted behind it! Today’s high temperatures are unlikely to go above freezing in most locations. The wind chill today will be between -10 and +5. Winds will be westward at 10 to 20 miles per hour. Protect exposed skin when outdoors for more than a few minutes. This cold snap won’t last long as high temperatures will rise back into the upper 30s to lower 40s over the weekend. TODAY: Arctic air will appear briefly with a likely snow effect. The snow will be much lighter, but will fall most evenly along/west of US 131, where another 2 to 3 inches may fall. Highs will be in the upper teens to near 20 degrees, with wind chills in the single digits above and below zero. West wind 10 to 20 mph. Gusts to 30. Wind chill -10 to +5.

TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy and cold. Lows around 10. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs in the low/mid 20s. East-southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy with afternoon and overnight rain/snow showers. Highs will be in the mid/upper 30s

SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy and a little warmer with a chance of showers. Highs in the low 40s.
