ForbesToday’s NYT “Connections” tips and answers for November 30th

Hello! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Regular readers may know that I bought a PlayStation VR2 during a Black Friday sale but had trouble getting it to work. However, thanks to a helpful person on Reddit, I finally got it working and was able to play one of the most ridiculous games of the year.

I’m working on a report about it, which I’ll post here in the coming days. But there was another complication: the last time I used the headset, I wasn’t careful enough when taking it off. I tore my glasses off my head, they fell to the floor and… one of the legs broke off. Oops.

I glued the leg back in place with superglue and it’s holding for now. My eye test was already overdue anyway and I booked one for tomorrow. Also, my new health insurance came into effect today, which covers a lot of the costs, so it’s not all bad news.

Anyway! Today NYT Connections Hints and answers for Sunday, December 1st will follow soon.

How to play connections

Connections is a free, popular one New York Times daily pun. You will receive a new puzzle every day at midnight. You can play on that NYT Website or gaming app.

You will be presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to divide them into four groups of four by figuring out the connections between them. The groups can be items you can click on, names of research participants, or words preceded by a body part.

Each puzzle has only one solution, and you have to be careful when it comes to words that could fit into more than one category. You can mix up the words to perhaps better see the connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to understand, blue and green are in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult. The purple group often contains puns.

Select four words that you think go together and click Send. If you guess and are wrong, you lose a life. When you’re close to finding the right group, you may see a message saying you’re one word away from the right group, but you still need to figure out which word to swap.

If you make four mistakes, the game is over. Let’s make sure that this doesn’t happen with the help of some tips, and if you really find it difficult, even with today’s ones Connections Answer. Like with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have one NYT You can access the publications with the All Access or Games subscription Connections Archive. This includes every previous game from Connectionsso you can go back and play any songs you missed.

Aside from the first 60 or so games, you should be able to find my clues for each grid via Google if you need to! Simply click here and enter the date of the game for which you need hints or answers to the search query.

This is your final warning!

Today Connections Answers are…

  • Yellow group – refuge (HAVEN, PORT, RETREAT, SHELTER)
  • Green group – football equipment (cleats, helmet, jersey, pads)
  • Blue Group – Candy Names (CHARMS, KIDS, WONKA, YORK)
  • Purple Group – “Free ____” (BIRD, FALLIN’, SOLO, WILLY)

I played a perfect game today and made it four in a row. You can’t complain too much about that. This is what happened to me:

Not quite the “truly perfect” game I should have had yesterday, but not far from it either!

I caught the purples as soon as I saw the top row of the grid. SOLO and WILLY simply had to be connected by “free”. I loved Free Willy As a child, I really wanted to watch the documentary Free solo for years. I’ll get to the other two words in a moment.

Through the inclusion of this group, it became quite clear to me that YORK, JERSEY, HAVEN, and PORT formed a diversion of “new” city and state terms (New York, New Haven, etc.). I highly doubted that there would be two groups in a game that had the same format.

This realization helped me see the greens around CLEATS and JERSEY. I derived the yellows very easily, but I presented the blues first. I can’t say I know CHARMS or YORK as candy, but it still turned out not to be a problem for me.

That’s all for today Connections Hints and answers. Be sure to check out my blog for tips and the walkthrough for Monday’s game if you need them.

PS: I feel compelled to choose a Tom Petty song since “Free Fallin'” was one of the purple ones, although I guess I could have chosen Lynyrd Skynyrd since “Free Bird” was also there. Still, I much prefer the positive, defiant nature of “I Won’t Back Down” to “Free Fallin’.”

I can understand the story behind this great song. Petty wrote it after an arsonist burned down his house while he was inside. Luckily, he and his family escaped unharmed. I also experienced a house fire when a bathroom heater set my apartment on fire several years ago. My then-partner and I also escaped unharmed and were able to save many of our belongings, but it was a frightening, humbling experience:

I also have to recommend the Johnny Cash version of the song. What an incredibly rich voice this man had. Oddly enough (according to a quick search on Wikipedia), two of Cash’s former properties in Hendersonville, Tennessee burned down separately while their new owners were making renovations. The more you know.

I wish you a wonderful day!
