Tornado warning issued for the Capital Region

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Ascension, Iberville, East Feliciana, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, Tangipahoa and West Feliciana parishes as well as, Amite, Pike and Wilkinson Counties until 3 p.m. Saturday.

A TORNADO WATCH means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and/or damaging winds in and around the watch area. Be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and watch for subsequent announcements and possible warnings. If a tornado warning is issued, seek shelter in the low interior of a sturdy building. Take pets with you (on a leash), wear sturdy shoes, monitor storm coverage with a wireless device, and cover your head in case of wind or tornado strike. Key threats include isolated tornadoes, some strong (EF-2 or higher), isolated damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, and patchy large hail. This afternoon there will be isolated strong to severe thunderstorms, with more widespread thunderstorms in the evening.
