Tottenham Hotspur 3-4 Chelsea, Premier League: Post-match reactions, reviews

An absolute disaster in the first ten minutes: Chelsea fell two goals behind as Marc Cucurella’s slip brought Brennan Johnson into the game twice and Spurs didn’t ask any questions about how, when or why.

Chelsea were clearly unsettled, but a lovely goal from Jadon Sancho calmed us down – although there were still frequent mistakes in possession and the game became more of a back and forth with chances for both sides.

The Blues had a much better start to the half, applying control and pressure and only some excellent goalkeeping keeping Spurs in the lead.

But Fraser Forster was unable to do anything about Cole Palmer’s penalty after Moisés Caicedo burst into the box and won a clear penalty.

After equalizing and overcoming a moment of lapse in concentration that resulted in Son’s 1-1 draw, Chelsea pushed for the lead. And we didn’t have to wait long because Enzo Fernández shot the ball into the goal with his left foot – Palmer was instrumental in that.

And then came the icing on this wonderful cake: Palmer won a penalty, which he then converted with a wonderfully cheeky Panenka.

Winter is coming, baby.

Spurs got some late consolation, but fortunately they didn’t have the time to do anything more.

Carefree.

  • Compared to last weekend, there was only one change forced by injury: Badiashile came on for Fofana
  • That game plan was scrapped at half-time when Gusto came on for Lavia
  • Third goal in the last four games for Enzo
  • Palmer now has 11 league goals
  • Neto was suspended for the next league game (Brenford) after receiving his fifth yellow card
  • Imagine going to a football game only to have trash thrown at the players
  • Chelsea are two points ahead of Arsenal, who dropped points earlier today, and are just under four points ahead of league leaders Liverpool, whose game was canceled due to weather
  • Next up: Astana waaaay away in the Conference League
