José de la Torre, who played Iván in the Spanish-language Netflix drama series “Toy Boy,” has died. He was 37.

Spanish publication Montilla Digital was first to report that the actor died on December 5 after a long battle with an undisclosed illness. A funeral service was held in Spain the day after his death.

In June, de la Torre announced that he had been diagnosed with what he called a “serious illness” and that he had retired from acting that same month to seek treatment.

De la Torre has been part of the Netflix series “Toy Boy” since its debut in 2019. The series ran for 21 episodes over three seasons until 2021. The series followed Hugo Beltrán, played by Jesús Mosquera, a stripper who “sets out to prove his innocence.” “For a crime he did not commit and that he had previously been wrongfully imprisoned for seven years,” says the official logline.

Other actors included Cristina Castaño, María Pedraza, Carlo Costanzia and Raudel Raúl Martiato.

De la Torre also appeared in 36 episodes of “Amar es para siempre” (“To Love Forever”), a long-running soap opera that explored the social and economic rise of the Spanish working class in the 1960s through the daily operations of the fictional tavern “El Asturiano”. José Antonio Sayagués and Mauel Baquerio acted as series stars.

Other appearances include brief appearances on shows such as Vis a Vis: El Oasis and Serve and Protect.

De la Torre is survived by his father Antonio de la Torre Hidalgo, his mother Maria Jose Delgado Espejo and his sister Marina.
