Trinity Rodman makes fun of fame-hungry, “alcoholic” father Dennis, claiming he’s only her father “by blood.”

Trinity Rodman makes fun of fame-hungry, “alcoholic” father Dennis, claiming he’s only her father “by blood.”

Dennis Rodman wasn’t really the father of his daughter Trinity, she confessed in a heartbreaking interview with Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper. Rather, the five-time NBA champion’s interest in becoming a father was virtually non-existent when the cameras weren’t around.

“He’s not a father,” Trinity, the 22-year-old soccer star and Olympic gold medalist, told Cooper. “Maybe through blood, but nothing else.”

“We tried to live with him,” she added, likely referring to herself and her brother DJ. “But he throws parties 24/7 and brings random bitches with him. He loves the spotlight.”

Much of Cooper’s interview centered around 63-year-old Dennis and his frequent absences from Trinity’s life.

The elder Rodman, of course, was known as much for his partying as he was for his defense and rebounding over two decades in professional basketball. But when he finally retired from football in 2006 after a spell with a British team, Dennis didn’t give in and has since sought treatment for alcohol abuse.

When speaking to Cooper, Trinity didn’t hesitate to call her father an “alcoholic.” But despite all the drama surrounding Dennis’ personal life, Trinity found she still felt the need to protect his public image, tarnished as it was.

“We never want to make him look bad,” Trinity told Cooper. “And that comes at the expense of retaining a crowd. I guess it’s just that the anger that I haven’t really been able to let out is difficult for me.”

Dennis was noticeably absent from Trinity’s games, albeit only for one NWSL quarterfinal in 2021.

The problem was that the worm didn’t tell anyone he was attending, the “Washington Spirit” star recalled.

“He showed up to my game, I was so angry,” Trinity said. “My mother had no idea until he was there. And I think she got a call or something. But they were in a suite, on the field side. And again, if I go to the quarterfinals in my rookie year, I’m already shitting my pants. I’m stressed out and I’m like, “Oh my God, we have to win.”

“We walk, I play… and I hear it,” said Trinity, who hadn’t seen her father for months before. “And his voice to me is like (makes a high, ringing noise), so I hear him say, ‘Let’s go, Rodman, let’s go, Trinity.’

“And I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ There’s no way that’s happening now.”

Trinity was soon crying on the field as her teammates huddled together for a water break. Her absent father suddenly occupied her mind during the biggest game of her young career.

Teammate and close friend Ashley Sanchez quickly noticed the problem.

“And she knew straight away,” Trinty continued. “She was like, ‘Oh damn!’ She hugged me and said, “It’s OK.” Let’s just finish this half, we’ll talk in the locker room at half time. Just finish this half. “Don’t think about it.”

“I thought, ‘Sure, let me just forget about it,'” Trinity laughed. “Simple advice.”

Washington ended up winning the game, but the headlines afterwards revolved around an emotional moment she shared with Dennis after the final whistle.

The picture of Dennis hugging Trinity went viral, as did her post-game comments about her hopes for their relationship.

But the reality was completely different.

“The whistle blew and I was so angry. I was like, “You took that happy moment away from me.” “You’ve turned my head again,” she said to Cooper. “And he’s done it so many times. ‘I think he knows what he’s doing.’

But when she confronted Dennis, her 6-foot-tall father pulled her to him and gave her a fatherly hug.

“I go over there, he grabs my head and I just start balling into his arms like it’s like a father-daughter child, like…” Trinity said, trailing off.

Dennis offered to contact her in Washington.

“He was like, ‘I want to see you soon, I’m in DC,'” she said. “I thought, ‘Okay.’” And then radio silence. I just saw him again this year. I didn’t speak to him or see him until, I think, right after the World Cup.”

Again, Trinity felt foolish for hoping for a relationship with Dennis.

“I’m stupid for thinking this would be a new spark,” she said. “That was me every time.” He came over and I said, “Okay, here it is again.” We’re going to start something. He will be near.’ Boom, months and months and months. This time it was years. And I was like, “Okay, cool.”

These days, Trinity doesn’t even have her father’s number, partly because it’s constantly changing, but also because she doesn’t feel pressured to keep track.

Dennis has tried to make contact, but Trinity isn’t exactly waiting for him.

“He’s been calling me, even the last few weeks he’s been trying to call me,” she said. “And it was a number from Texas.” I didn’t know he lived in Texas. So this is news to me.’
