Troy Aikman suggests the coaches are responsible for the penalty that wiped out a Bears touchdown

Troy Aikman suggests the coaches are responsible for the penalty that wiped out a Bears touchdown

The Chicago Bears didn’t score a goal in the first half of the game Monday Night Football Game against the Minnesota Vikings. In fact, they haven’t scored a goal in the first half of a game since November 24th.

After trailing 13-0 midway through the third quarter, it looked like they had actually scored a touchdown when D’Andre Swift took a handoff and ran into the end zone behind center Doug Kramer Jr., who was playing fullback .

And therein lies the catch. Kramer did not report to officials before applying for a suitable position. A flag was thrown and Joe Buck and Troy Aikman had flashbacks to last season’s Cowboys-Lions game.

Buck reiterated the officer’s statement and indicated that Kramer needed to come forward in this situation. Aikman agreed, wondering if it might be a coaching issue.

“He does, Joe. And the problem is…is…I guess now,” Aikman said. “I don’t know, but I’m not sure anyone told him this week. I mean, you just don’t get in that situation and play full-back. I mean, they trained him as a fullback.”

The Bears fired head coach Matt Eberflus on November 29, just weeks after firing offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and four other offensive assistants.

Thomas Brown, who served as passing game coordinator at the beginning of the season, moved to Waldron’s position and then Eberflus’ position and is now head coach. If the person who told Kramer about the legitimate recipient report is no longer on the team, it’s unclear whose fault that is.
