Troy Aikman was worried about Caleb Williams after the Bears’ troubling bench scene

Troy Aikman fears that Bears’ rookie quarterback Caleb Williams may develop a trust issue given the way things are going in Chicago.

The ESPN broadcaster, in discussion for Monday’s clash between the Bears and Vikings, said Williams looked like “a defeated guy” as he stood up after a big hit from Minnesota linebacker Jihad Ward early in the fourth quarter the bank.

Aikman pointed to his time as a rookie quarterback for the Cowboys in 1989 after being the No. 1 draft pick.

“I was 0-11 as a starter and he had a much better rookie season than I did,” Aikman said as ESPN replayed the score in the Vikings’ 30-12 win over the Bears at US Bank Stadium.

“We watched him on the sidelines. He grimaced and was in tremendous pain. When you watch him, you realize he’s a defeated guy.

“When you mentioned that we were watching him on the sidelines, he was grimacing and in tremendous pain. And when I watch him, you can tell he’s a defeated guy. I mentioned that he had never experienced anything like this at any point in his career. What you worry about is a rookie quarterback losing confidence.”

Aikman added that Williams had previously communicated that he was healthy but tired.

Williams was visibly in pain as he fell over on the bench.

Fox Sports host Emmanuel Acho reposted the clip of Williams and wrote, “This isn’t a good look for Caleb Williams or Caleb Williams…”

It was the eighth straight loss for Williams and the Bears in a season that included the firing of head coach Matt Eberflus and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.

Thomas Brown has taken over as the team’s interim head coach.

Williams, USC’s No. 1 prospect, was sacked this season behind a woeful offensive line with an NFL-high 58.

However, Williams contributed to his own woes with his penchant for holding on to the ball for too long and was inaccurate at times.

Ward’s hit came on a play in which Williams frantically ran around before throwing an incomplete pass to Keenan Allen.

Williams completed 18 of 31 passes for 191 yards with one touchdown and an 86.9 passer rating.

The Bears (4-10) face the Lions (12-2) on Sunday in Chicago.
