Trump confirms extreme plan to abolish Postal Service

Trump wants to kill the United States Postal Service.

The President-elect was asked about the USPS Lose money during a press conference in Palm Beach on Monday.

“Well, there is talk of privatizing the Postal Service, you know that. “That’s not the worst idea I’ve ever heard,” Trump said. “You know it’s very different today … between Amazon and UPS and FedEx and all the things you didn’t have. But people are talking about it, it’s an idea that a lot of people have liked for a long time. We’ll look into it.”

The comments confirm a Washington Post report over the weekend that Trump is considering plans to privatize the entire Postal Service due to financial losses. He reportedly discussed the idea with Howard Lutnick, his commerce secretary and head of his transition team.

Privatizing the USPS has been in the works for some time. Trump-appointed Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has done his best to destroy one of this country’s oldest, constitutionally protected institutions.

On-time delivery rates fell when DeJoy was appointed in 2020, particularly in communities of color. He facilitated the removal and destruction of mail sorting machines that were critical to the smooth operation of USPS. And he has several questionable investments. Last week he even did covered his ears while facing criticism from Republicans in Congress for dismantling the USPS from within.

“Louis DeJoy is the perfect example of a Trump candidate. After Trump appointed him, he destroyed USPS. Now he claims it doesn’t work and will propose privatization,” said one X commenter wrote. “Then he, Trump and their cronies will steal from the business, charge exorbitant amounts and rape the public.”

“The Postal Service is literally enshrined in the Constitution. It is an essential PUBLIC service that should never be privatized. This would harm millions of Americans, especially those in the most rural areas,” said Senator Tina Smith of Minnesota said.
