Tyreak Sapp seen with Seminole head after Florida vs. Florida State fight

Florida football player Tyreak Sapp was seen wearing what looked like a Seminole head during a series of postgame fights following the Gators’ win over Florida State on Saturday night.

The fighting broke out. UF player George Gumbs Jr. placed a UF flag on the midfield logo at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. FSU coach Mike Norvell ripped the flag off the field and threw it to the ground as players from both teams fought.

After the riot, Sapp was seen carrying what looked like a small head of FSU’s Seminole mascot. A video on social media showed Sapp accepting the head of someone in the stands and then running around holding it by the scalp.

Sapp said after the game that he received his head from a fan about 50 seconds before the end of the game. He noted that he expected fans to have some sort of prop with them.

“I didn’t know if it was going to be a spear or something,” Sapp said. “I thought I was holding the spear, but I got the head instead. I loved the head.”

Florida players have done this in the past after wins over FSU. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson also held the head and showed it to Gators fans after their win in 2018.

Florida won 31-11 on Saturday to improve to 7-5. FSU fell to 2-10 after the loss.

What happened in the Florida vs. Florida State fight?

Florida and FSU players fought after UF’s George Gumbs Jr. placed a Gators flag on the Seminoles logo. Afterwards, Tyreak Sapp was seen wearing a Seminole head on the field.

A group of Florida fans said on social media that they had it custom made and brought it to the game in retaliation for FSU players celebrating with an alligator head after their victories in recent years.

Who is Tyreak Sapp?

Tyreak Sapp is a redshirt junior edge rusher for the Florida Gators. The Fort Lauderdale native attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School, where he made the All-American Bowl and was a four-star recruit according to Rivals.

Sapp entered Saturday’s game against FSU leading the Gators with 13 tackles for loss and seven sacks. His 44 tackles are sixth on the team and he has forced two fumbles. He had five tackles (two TFLs) and one sack in Saturday’s game.

Is Tyreek Sapp related to Warren Sapp?

Tyreek Sapp shares a name with Warren Sapp, a Pro Football Hall of Famer who was part of the 2002 Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ dominant defense. The fearsome defensive lineman has roots in Florida, was born in Orlando and played college in Miami. He is now a senior quality control analyst under head coach Deion Sanders at Colorado.

Although they share the same last name and position, Tyreak Sapp is not related to Warren Sapp, as he states in his Twitter bio.
