UFC 310 results: Doo Ho Choi punishes Nate Landwehr on the ground for third-round win

Doo Ho Choi showed he’s still evolving as the ever-exciting featherweight pounded Nate Landwehr on the feet and then punished him with punches to the ground, earning him a third-round stoppage to open the UFC 310 main card.

From the first second to the last, Choi was all over Landwehr, not giving him a second to breathe, but he also messed up his game on the feet and in grappling. After finally pinning Landwehr in the crucifix position and dishing out offense on the ground, the referee had no choice but to stop the fight, and Choi won at 3:21 of the third round.

“I feel great,” Choi said of his win. “I feel very lucky. In the new generation, I like to show that I am at a new level. I’ve been in the UFC for 10 years, I should be able to do grappling like that.

Choi set the tone early by delivering a nasty uppercut that snapped Landwehr’s head back and immediately put the always exciting featherweight on his back foot. From there, Choi really started firing off combinations, with one of the shots causing a cut to Landwehr’s nose while he continued to take plenty of damage.

Landwehr continued to push forward, but Choi answered him with sharp, precise punches while avoiding a potential brawl. Choi also opened with a blistering leg kick that began to chip away at Landwehr’s foundation, but to his credit, the Tennessee native kept coming at him with his trademark determination and aggression.

While he dominated on the feet, Choi decided to throw Landwehr to the ground, where he immediately switched to take the back and look for submissions. Choi continued to maintain control on the ground, but the fight eventually regained momentum, and Landwehr desperately tried to mount some sort of offensive to shift the momentum in his favor.

Knowing he was down on the scorecards, Landwehr simply began throwing with reckless abandon, hoping to make a dramatic comeback, but Choi quickly countered by taking him back to the ground. This time, Choi locked Landwehr in the crucifix position while he began attacking him from above with short, nasty punches.

The punishment continued, with Landwehr lying on the ground and Choi firing shots until the referee simply wouldn’t let the fight continue.

After his recent win, Choi turned his attention back to the featherweight rankings and hoped to get back into the top 15 in his next outing.

“My next opponent, I’m so ready for Bryce Mitchell,” Choi said. “I believe that if I fight Bryce Mitchell, I will be included in the new generation of featherweights.”
